Fibre to Fabric

Learning Objective: 

  • To inform students about the types of fibres and its sources
  • To let the students know about the various methods or techniques by which fibres are turn into fabrics.
Day-1

Time: 20 mins

Activity 1:

The students will collect different types of dress/cloth which are there in their house and will write the fibre name which is used in clothes, they will fill in the list and will share with the teacher/parents.

Time: 30 mins

Activity 2:

The students will go through the chapter and will mark the doubts They will ask to the teacher/parents to clear the doubts. Then the students will draw a chart on ‘Classification of Fibre’ (their basic idea about the various types of fibres and how they are obtained.) and will share with the teacher/guardian.

The students can watch few minutes / (3mins 18 sec) of a short film on historical significance of ‘Khadi’ in our life.

Time: 30 mins

Activity 3:

The students will write and share with their teacher /guardian how fibres are obtained and steps involved in the preparation of fabrics. (silk, cotton, wool, jute)

Day-2

Time: 20 mins(for each activity)

Assessment:

  • Write a paragraph on history of cloth in India?
  • What types of fabric are used mostly in Assam and why? Write the source of that fabric.
  • Which type of fibres can pose a threat to the environment? And why?
  • Write down the sources of Nomex, Spandex, Coir, Lyocell, Polyester fibres.
